I'm Daylight; we talked a bit in the past when you chatted with me when I expressed an interest in meeting the green-eyed spirits.
Well, I hope this doesn't come across as too weird or anything but can we talk somewhere private soon? Soldat brought you up when we were discussing something super serious, and I wanted to bring some stuff up with you too as a result of it.
[He's on his way. Avoiding Coraline might be best since there's so much snow and ice around and she'll inevitably ask him to make more snowmen. Or bears. Or dragons. Which he will because he's secretly a big softy.
He politely knocks on the door and folds his arms to wait, wearing his normal leather armor with his upper arms exposed. Apparently the blizzard from a week ago doesn't seem to bother him.]
[ daylight quickly opens the door and crouches down a bit to meet sir kuai liang's eyes, smiling nervously as he waves hello and, then, waves him inside. ]
Um- To answer your earlier question... Yeah. I room with Coraline. We're friends.
[ an awkward beat passes by as daylight tries to find the words to explain himself. you'd think he would have them by now while waiting for his guest to arrive.
you'd think and yet- ] So... Soldat mentioned you when we were talking about something... pretty important. Um- To make a long story short: I made contact with Dr. Solis and she invited me to meet her.
She said I could bring someone and that's why Soldat mentioned you. He thought you could be someone who could possibly come along with me.
[ he raises a servo up. ] I just- I just need you to know I'm going to talk to others about this. Multiple names came up and, um, I want to hear you all out. And I want you all to know because this is... big. This is big and the others trusted you with this so I trust you to know what's going on in turn.
[He follows him in, briefly glancing around to assure this isn't some sort of trap. Daylight doesn't seem the type, but he knows he's not the best judge of character.]
To meet in person? That could be incredibly useful if we were to ask the right questions. Unless you are considering this a social occasion.
[Whatever he expected Daylight to ask that is definitely not it. He folds his arms and thinks about everything he knows about Dr. Solis, the lab Ignis had found bearing her name, something about a radio tower and her being able to ... reuse the lanterns? There had been a lot of information thrown around in a short period of time.]
Are you going to try and convince her to make herself known to others? You said she was afraid we would kill her?
I'm definitely going to ask questions while I have tea with her. It seems, erm, silly not to since the chance is there. [ he retrieves his tablet and shows it to him, showing a list of questions he's typed down so far.
(judging by some of the comments and the quotes he also has under the questions, he's been brainstorming with the others on this angle too.) ]
I don't think even I can change her mind. She... She told me that she's waiting for the right time. She tried to in the past with the other groups and it never went well.
What I'm hoping to do is learn what she's willing to share and- [ this is going to sound stupid but-! ] -and make a good impression, basically? See if we can help her out?
[Wow, he's impressed with Daylight's thoroughness. This may be their only chance to speak to her, and he's taking this opportunity seriously.]
Did she say what went wrong those other times? Was it bad on her side or theirs?
Understandable that you want to make a good impression. Then she'll hopefully be amenable to meeting again even if she doesn't want to reveal herself to everyone. Who else have you spoken to? Lord Cao Pi may be a wise choice, he certainly knows everything that's going on since he's the one who organizes the town halls.
[But he can come off as condescending, which might not be ideal.]
[ daylight pulls out something- a letter from a human-sized individual, judging by the size of it as day begins to read some text aloud: ] 'I have made myself available to peaceful groups only for my presence to then spur distrust, creating a rift in the community. I would loathe for a similar fate to fall upon this community you all have worked tirelessly to build.'
[ he looks up from the letter and back down at sir kuai liang, his optics wide and flickering in the equivalent of a blink. ] I think this means a bit of Column A and a bit of Column B. Like, um, what happened at the start with Ms. Robin... After she made herself known to us.
[ day looks sad at this part now, remembering the amount of distrust and wariness he had felt towards her. he looks back at those memories with a wince, wishing he hadn't been so suspicious of someone who is trying her hardest in his opinion. trying her hardest in something she probably doesn't really understand herself. ]
I want to do right by Dr. Solis and us with this chance. So I've, um, spoken to Sir Cao Pai so far. [ he's... certainly going to make his presence known if he comes along. especially since day needs someone who is willing to ask questions and push for an opening if the chance presents itself. ] I'm also planning to speak with someone else and Mr. Maes Hughes after we've finished talking.
[ huh. so daylight isn't going to give the name of this fourth person he's going to talk to...? ]
[He's not going to feel an ounce of sympathy for someone who's proven to be more of an obstacle to overcome than helpful. But he's certainly willing to give Dr. Solis a chance before coming to any conclusions.]
I wonder if what she means is that those she didn't meet with became jealous. Or that the ones she did hoarded the information she provided which split the town. So long as we can overcome those things we should have a better chance at this.
We're already having townhalls and disseminating information over the network so there is that. But we can't control how others will react to the knowledge that there's a resource they do not have access to.
[He arches an eyebrow at that "someone else" but doesn't push it. He doesn't know Daylight well enough to know if he's purposefully withholding something or that's simply the way he speaks.]
[ judging by the way he puffs out his cheeks at sir kuai liang's comment, daylight is in clear disagreement with that comment. (it also gives him a way to hide hod wince when getting that raised brow reaction™ because day has no poker face.)
but, perhaps thankfully, he focuses on the important topic at hand and huffs under his breath as he puts away the letter and pulls out his tablet to begin taking notes. if there's anything he learned from dialup, it's that one always has to take notes when discussing/planning things. ]
I'll bring that up with her when I meet her. I don't know if any kept the minutes of the town hall meeting- [ something that he thinks will need to be corrected for next time. maybe he should give it a shot since dialup taught how to? ] -but I'll try to examples of all the progress we made so far. She doesn't have a way to connect with us from what she told us so... Yeah.
Network posts. Announcements. Pictures of the areas we found. Maybe that will sway her into thinking of seeing us sooner rather than later.
[ he frowns a bit, looking at the messy list he had quickly typed out. ] I wonder if there's anything in particular I should, um, bring up with her. Maybe the lighthouse expedition...? That was pretty big.
[Robin can be polarizing, everyone he's talked to either blindly trusts her or wants to see her interrogated. Kuai doesn't like, nor trust her, but he doesn't wish harm on her. He'd like her a whole lot better if she was more forthcoming with information.
Which is why he's hopeful that Dr. Solis may be more helpful, and first impressions are key.]
Riku might have, that seems like something he would do. If he has they haven't been posted to the network anywhere, especially recently now that we know that the spirits have access to it. Or potentially do.
She doesn't have a tablet? Or connection to the network?
[Wow, talk about living off the grid. How is she surviving?]
Maybe we can hook her up to it the way we did the Lighthouse, hopefully with less casualties. And yes, that might be something to tell her about, that we risked a lot, and lost people, to get Robin reconnected to the network. We would do the same for her.
[ daylight winces at the mention of connecting the lighthouse. not because it's a bad idea. it's a really good one, even, with how it's helped them in the long run. it's just... though it's been so long ago and it was, in hindsight and oversight, a very necessary thing to do for the sake of beacon, what followed soon after the connecting is still something that haunts worries day.
(and the lack of yellow constantly reminds him of what happened.) ]
No, she doesn't. [ he tries to pull himself out of those rather unhappy thoughts, turning his attention back to the talk at hand.
daylight pulls out his tablet and opens the network app, just to check the directory of names and usernames and information there. ] She never explained it in detail why but I guess it's because of the directory here?
I mean- It'd look pretty suspicious if there was one constant name just... hovering there, never replying or responding to anyone. [ no doubt a lot of people would have noticed that. and, with how suspicious they were then, would not have been happy with it too. ]
Not necessarily. There's many here from places that don't posses this kind of technology and never use it. Some on there have never posted to the network.
I rarely look at the directory unless I'm trying to contact someone directly.
[Though ninety percent of his tablet usage is for playing sudoku and five percent bantering with Cao Pi.]
I did consider using it as a starting point for making sure everyone is accounted during a crisis, perhaps making hard copies if the network goes down. But that's neither here nor there.
Though it does raise the question of how many are out there not on the network. Pluto and the rest of the Night Market for instance.
[huh, he'd not thought about that before..]
Apologies, I'm getting off track. But I think it would be prudent to mention to her that we should find a way to connect her. Even if she's merely present it would assuage fears and potential resentment that only some are allowed to speak to her.
